Chapter 213: Zombie Wave ( 14 )
"How are your weapons… your ammunitions?" Eldrin, the leader of the Elves and a Ranger, asked his fellow elves.
"I retrieved just about 60% of my arrows. The others were destroyed." Faelar replied.
"I didn\'t count… However, my crossbow is in good condition. There\'s no sign of breaking. This one was given by Lord Shane and has been upgraded." Cirdan said as he looked at the smoke that the marching zombies were creating.
Thalion and Aranion also gave their replies, confirming that their weapons were still in a good condition and that they were ready to fight once again.
At this time, everyone felt ready…
Arrows were nocked, crossbows primed, and blades sharpened. The new wooden gate, hastily constructed after the last onslaught, was already erected since Leo had prepared a spare gate… It may be a fragile barrier against the undead tide, but it was better than nothing.
"Let them come… Don\'t trigger the last set of traps we\'ve prepared." Shane reminded
From his spot, his Laser Sniper Rifle was cradled in his arms, as he surveyed the cleared forest.
Suddenly, Aegis Force Barrier hummed, its translucent energy shimmering around the estate before it disappeared.
The Power Cores had just been replaced by Mr. Wadsworth, and the defenders knew that this was their additional line of defense, so they all felt relieved seeing its activation.
"Ahh?"
"This smell…"
"Wait… I suddenly feel hungry…"
"Why now?"
In the midst of preparing to face the looming threat of the second zombie horde, a tantalizing aroma drifted through the estate.
The scent of savory meat being cooked to perfection, infused with a medley of aromatic herbs and spices, stirred the senses of all present.
"I\'m salivating…" Bart, who was still sipping with his ale, softly muttered after inhaling the enticing aroma of the food being cooked.
The others had somewhat similar reaction to this.
The elves, with their heightened sensitivity to smells, were actually the first to catch the alluring scent. However, because of their tasks and professionalism, they decided to ignore it and just showed a longing glance at the kitchen area of the manor.
This was followed swiftly by the Super Soldiers and then the rest of the fighters. All of them had eaten their fill this morning, but as the fragrance enveloped the area, a collective rumble of hunger resonated among the group.
It was as if they didn\'t see any grotesque or unappetizing rotten flesh of zombies just now!
"Someone\'s cooking... Is this some form of encouragement by Lord Shane?" remarked Chaloem, the esteemed Monk, his keen senses detecting the source of the enticing smell.
"Ugh... I\'m not sure if this is effective. It might even cause trouble." confessed Lady Seraph, the valiant Royal Knight, despite the recent battle and the grim sights she had witnessed. Her appetite remained undiminished.
Echoing her sentiments, the others expressed their own newfound hunger, their mouths watering at the promise of a satisfying meal.
Just as the aroma reached its peak, Shane made an announcement.
With a loud voice, he told everyone that once they successfully repelled the second horde, a feast awaited them. They would partake in this special meal to replenish their strength and spirits.
This feast was meticulously prepared by Alexa, utilizing the recently acquired Unknown Safe Meat and various ingredients, ensuring that each bite would be a taste of success and a break from the chaos of battle.
Because of this simple yet enticing reward, everyone felt motivated in the second horde!
"So a good food can really boost morale…" Shane muttered as he saw the battle that ensued.
They had faced about 500 Runner Zombies with their decayed legs, propelling them forward. There were also 500 Jumper Zombies with their elongated and strong limbs reaching for the ramparts, and a 100 Flasher Zombies with their blinding flashes disorienting the survivors. These are the zombies attacking the front of the estate.
The number seemed smaller than the previous horde, but that\'s more problematic for Shane.
After all, this normally means that there be more special zombies in this horde! As expected, the true threat emerged a few minutes after the clash—the Tyrant Zombies.
There were twenty of them, towering and moving a bulldozer, with their eyes burning with malevolence.
From Shane\'s point of view, they were like the generals of the undead, orchestrating the horde of Zombies.
Shane\'s jaw clenched. These Tyrant Zombies were not mindless creatures that only acted on instinct, unlike the others… At some point, they were cunning, deliberate, and lethal as they knew how to pick up things to throw or use terrain to their advantage. It was a simple form of combat intelligence, but it could be very deadly.
In the meantime, at the eastern side of the estate, the previous thousand wolves was replaced by the Cave Dwellers. More than 2,000 dwarf zombies, swarmed out of nowhere!
Their eyes glowed with blue light, their bony fingers scrabbling at barrier…
Their sheer numbers were overwhelming, and it was difficult to completely clear them up! They might need Shane\'s Grenade Launcher once again to clear the area.
Chaloem and the Eclipse Revenant fought valiantly, their blades weaving patterns of death. But the dwarves kept coming, their low growls echoing through the night. The castle trembled, its ancient stones cracking under the onslaught.
Shane made a decision.
He signaled to Mara, the Flamethrower wielder to help the eastern side...
He also threw a pouch of Zombie Cores to her so she could use the Hell\'s Fury against the Cave Dweller Zombies.
Soon, Flames erupted, a wall of searing heat that engulfed the Cave Dwellers. Their screams or roars were drowned out by the inferno, their bodies reduced to ash!
However, Shane didn\'t bother much about them as he looked at the advancing Tyrant Zombies!
