Chapter 235 Of Voices And Dreams 5

The world that Drusilla once lived in was a far more beautiful world than the current one she was witnessing now. These tall buildings made of glass materials were nothing more but little things that she could have toppled down with one wave of her hand.

She had lived in a world with dragons, elves and demons—far more dangerous foes than anyone here have ever witnessed before.

Vampires were never the top of the food chain, but they had tried and thrived.

Lived and died.

All of those things, with the expanse of the blue sky beyond them and the sun burning its fiery rays of judgment. The weaker of their kind died or learned how to roam in the dark, stalk and kill their preys with the right amount of cunning and deceit.

Those were the days.

Where giants toppled down mountains and dwarves defended their fortresses.

It was such a wonderful world that filled Drusilla with nostalgia.

Even the pathetic worms of humanity were able to make something out of themselves. Oh they had hid in caves before, learned how to use paltry sticks that soon became sharpened and then the dwarves taught them how to bend metal, the elves taught them how to grow plants.

Drusilla didn\'t dislike them for what they were, beneath the Vampires in terms of natural gifts and abilities, but they were able to be resourceful—and somehow everything that surrounded the \'Vampire city\' in Drusilla\'s vision screamed of human invention.

It was way too much!

Unacceptable—there was something like going too far, wasn\'t there?

"Drusilla, what do you mean?" Lukas repeated and his voice shook the blood world that she was trapped in.

Oh, if this young man knew that Drusilla hated the new world very much, then he wouldn\'t assume that she was thirsty to be freed and such. But for now, Lukas\' question reminded her of what she had said.

"Hah. When the gods created this world, it almost seemed like there were races that were made for one thing and one thing alone. The elves, nymphs and other beings had a connection with nature, dwarves with their metal, smith and fortitude and even the demons had strange energy that came from below the world. During that time, it was accepted that you were what you were and your nature could not be changed."

"What does that…?" Lukas started.

"It means that you need to listen to those above you." Drusilla said, in an attempt to be haughty, but it only came out as a weary voice of an elder. "Perhaps the first to learn that others can copy others is no other than the humans themselves. Maybe it was because they were weak and defenseless that the other races took pity on them when there was mostly enmity between all of us before, but the humans did learn and so then the others came to follow. Some dwarves tried their hand at magic, humans learned how to plant and grow crops, and then even some of the Vampires learned the trade. How could you not when even the dragons grew envious of the music that humans just copied from the Slyphs and the Elementals of the world?"

Lukas\' mind didn\'t even intend to, but somehow, Drusilla\'s words almost put him in a trance. Similar, if not almost the same to when he had entered the Dryad\'s mind and seen how the world formed in her eyes.

Lukas saw the image of a large dragon attempt to use its gigantic claws to play the strings of an instrument, a human at its side playing a flute while rivals like the dwarves and elves found themselves sharing a drink of what looked like alcohol.

Trade flourished, technology advanced in its own way and for those… even the Vampires who thought themselves to be above humans and their paltry kind found themselves trying to emulate what they could.

Oh, some simply abducted humans and made them do all the world, but there were those who were willing to drop their pretenses and actually try.

A Vampire who accepted a pretty shell from a Mermaid and drank from it watched their hair suddenly turn into green, while the Mermaid gained a beautiful blood red gem.

And then finally to a Vampire who cursed and swore as they dropped a hammer on their thumb, invoking the name of gods as a Dwarf laughed deeply and offered to get him some bandages.

Visions come to life—somehow, Lukas had a feeling that some of these weren\'t even Drusilla\'s own memories any longer, or they never have been but somehow, the memory played as something glittered just out the edge of his vision.

[World\'s Memory - Activated]

A temporary gift that allowed him to see what the past was like and how Drusilla came to know and love it. Either way, Lukas\' was smart enough to have focused his gaze on the Vampire with the hammer who found himself stuck comfortably in the heart of a mountain where molten lava and steel formed his character.

Until finally they hefted up a blade.

"The… the Durand House are blacksmiths?" Lukas said, uncertainly. "Didn\'t you say that it was your relatives who backstabbed you?"

"Did you really think they would have worked with dwarves for the weapon?" Drusilla said, archly as the feeling of nostalgia was swept away. "Nonsense. They must have approached a Durand for it and now we see that their blood still remains strong and true. The makers of the weapon may have imbued a gift which allowed their descendants to hear the voice of the ones trapped in their creation. That was how she was able to hear me."

"And then what about me? I\'m not sure if she\'s all up in telepathy and stuff?" Lukas said.

"I have no measure of her complete competency with the gifts of our kind, but if it was not her… then one can assume that you are the reason for it. You wanted your voice to be heard."
